Cascade Impactor testing or Aerodynamic particle size distribution (APSD) testing is the most used method to assess the quality of an inhaler. The quality of commercial and clinical products has to be analyzed according to recognized global compendia, such as US Pharmacopeia section <601> and European Pharmacopeia sections 2.9.18 and 2.9.44. Usually the methods described in the pharmacopeias are also used on the products under development.
At Emmace, the Next Generation Impactor (NGI) is the most used impactor. We also use Andersen Cascade Impactor and the Multi Stage Liquid impinger (MLSI).
